Works by Helen Taylor
This exhibition of charcoal and pencil, Works by Helen Taylor passed a skilled and critical eye over country regions from Pemberton in the south to the Eastern Goldfields, and from Cue to Geraldton in the north of Western Australia. The exhibition provided an opportunity to see an approach to landscape which challenged both the 'picturesque’ tradition and the typical representation of human activity, including commonly celebrated themes of male struggle on the land. While the framed works were appreciated conventionally as the artist's response to the landscapes, the large installation drawings created a particularly apt sense in the viewer of being confronted with an experience similar to that had by the artist in the landscape itself.
