Urban Reality

Twenty four works were selected from the Inaugural 1991 Open Printmaking Competition. They demonstrated printmaking as an exciting contemporary vehicle, both in terms of image and technique for visual artists. All images reflected the theme Urban Reality often making a provocative statement about the artists' lives. Within the exhibition, some interpretations were bold, amusing or very graphic, while others were soft and more subtly evocative in their approach. Artists represented were the Winner Jon Tarry and the Highly Commended Award Winners, Susanna Castleden, Paul Trinidad and Helen Almond using a variety of techniques including etching, screenprint, linocut and spirit transfer.
