Transient – Hans Arkeveld Retrospective
Transientt was a journey through the remarkable mind and art of Hans Arkeveld. This exhibition was curated by Dr Robyn Taylor who explored a number of aspects of Arkeveld’s artistic practice that spanned over four decades.
Hans Arkeveld was one of Western Australia’s most revered artists and this retrospective looked at his deeply felt commitment to art as a means of exploring the nature of life and our experience of the world. Arkeveld was an artist with deep convictions; a humanist with an enquiring mind, strong philosophical convictions and a respect for life and truth. His passion for portraying the human body and commitment to issues about the human spirit and freedom came together in powerful works of art.
Arkeveld was a practising artist since the early 1960s and taught in most of the major art institutions in Perth. His art, and that of a handful of others, has been recognised as seminal to the development of a particularly Western Australian narrative aesthetic, especially in the field of sculpture.
