Technics

This exhibition brought together the jewellery and sculptural objects of Helen Britton, the vibrant paintings of Barbara Bolt and the video/sculpture installation of Lucas Ihlein. The exhibition placed craft making into a contemporary context, challenging the tendency to assign it to domestic practice. Britton recyled industrial waste such as cigarette lighters and glass and combined these with precious metals and gems to produce her highly sculptural jewellery pieces. Bolt used the process of paint washes on canvas to achieve a luminosity of surface that can only be achieved by the overlay of a series of paint stains. lhlein's sculptural installation incorporated new media elements, which explored the relationship between the built environment, memory and associations.
