Promised Land
An installation work by Australian sculpture artist Nien Schwarz was presented at Albany, Kalgoorlie and Esperance as part of the West Australian tour during 2002-2004.
In the face of increasing land and water degradation, this exhibition asked, was it possible to create an ecologically sustainable future? What is sustainable to begin with?
Created from hundreds of emergency edition topographic maps of Australia distributed during the 1940s, the four works in Promised Land considered the collective impact of global daily consumption on the environment with wit, subtlety and beauty.
