Prelude – Early works by Elizabeth Durack 1947 – 1950

This exhibition featured 20 watercolours and 15 drawings of landscapes and figures produced by Elizabeth Durack in the East Kimberley, Western Australia between the years 1947-1950. The exhibition considered the origins and motivations of a distinctly West Australian artist who worked for over 60 years. Durack's talent, artistic motivation and subject matter were shaped principally by the life and art of Aboriginal people in Northern Australia, and by experiences far removed from established art schools in leading metropolitan centres.
