Penumbrae – Art in the Interstices of the Everyday

The thematic focus of this exhibition centred on the aesthetic, political and existential dimensions of what could be called the postmodern 'everyday'. The works were linked by a common desire to explore the experiential space constituted by our relationship with the system of objects, images and discourses which form the everyday of any industrialised and technologically advanced society. These included the interiors of our houses and work places, the urban spaces that surround us, the common objects and appliances, the mass-produced sounds and the images that provide the background to our activities.
