Now and Then: A Hundred Years of Art & Design in Western Australia: Perth Tech to Central TAFE, 1900 – 2000

This exhibition was put together by Consultant David Bromfield as part of the celebrations of the hundredth anniversary of Perth Technical College, now the West Australian School of Art and Design of Central TAFE. It presented the most comprehensive look at WA art and design for over a decade. Perth Tech and TAFE were and remain the state's most powerful and influential agency for art and design education. Paintings and sculpture by artists from every generation of teachers and students at the Tech were shown side by side with examples of craft and commercial art. For most of its history the Tech insisted that art and design should be taught together. Linton was a craftsman of high order, AB Webb made prints, advertising placards and posters Ivor Hunt founded the commercial art course in the early forties although he was now best known for his watercolours. More recent and contemporary figures include Janis Nedela, Howard Taylor, Pippin Drysdale, Madeleine Clear, Tim Burns, Martin Heine, Tony Jones and Stuart Elliott.
