David Gregson: A Desire to Relate

David Gregson: A Desire to Relate was a survey exhibition about the art and life of the late Western Australian painter, David Gregson (1934 – 2002).

A Desire to Relate brought a selection of David Gregson’s magnificent artworks to regional audiences around Western Australia. An initiative of the Mundaring Arts Centre, this exhibition provided visitors with a unique opportunity to understand and appreciate David Gregson’s invaluable contribution to Western Australia’s visual arts scene.

A highly prodigious visual artist, whose career spanned over 50 years, David Gregson is one of Western Australia’s most highly regarded figurative painters. His dedication to opening our eyes to the communicative power of art, and his virtuosic talent with a paintbrush, strongly informed his art and continues to influence many aspiring and established artists.

Curated by Catherine Czerw, on behalf of the Mundaring Arts Centre, A Desire to Relate comprised of twenty rarely seen artworks in both oils and gouache, drawn solely from private collections. It explored how and why David Gregson came to be appreciated as a significant contributor to the story of figurative painting in Western Australia.
