Armlinks

62 artists and craftspeople from 25 towns and communities around the Northern Territory joined together to show their cultural traditions through the linking theme of the ‘armband’. The exhibition represented both traditional and contemporary practice from Indigenous and non- indigenous artists alike. Included were traditional Yolngu ceremonial feather arm bands from Arnhem Land, Warlpiri seed bracelets strung on human hair from the edge of the Tanami Desert, contemporary ceramic armpieces from the Arrernte artists at Hermannsburg, etched sterling silver bracelets from the Tiwi Island and beautifully painted turned wooden bangles from the Eastern Arrernte at Ltyente Apurte.
